On your first visit to Ultimate Sports Medicine, you will be asked to complete a case history, which will give the doctor background about not only your primary complaint but your health in general. Next, you will meet with your doctor who will take a thorough history of your complaint. For some that is a complaint of pain, for others, it is a complaint about athletic performance. This will include such things as questions about how your injury began, your activity level, previous injuries, your occupation as well as your family health.
Next, your doctor will go through a physical examination with you. This may include postural and gait analysis, orthopedic and neurologic testing, as well as Selective Functional Movement Assessment. In most cases, the doctor will be looking not only at the area of pain or dysfunction but also at other areas which may be influencing or causing the problem. If necessary, additional tests such as lab work, x-ray or MRI may be ordered.
Once the examination is complete, your doctor will go over the findings and map out a treatment plan to correct the problem. Treatment options vary between patients, but frequently include soft tissue work such as Active Release Techniques (ARTⓇ), GrastonⓇ and cupping. If joint mobility restrictions are present, chiropractic manipulative therapy may be included. To support the treatment, ergonomic changes, supportive taping, as well as stretching and foam rolling may be prescribed. For most of our patients, there will be homework consisting of corrective exercises, which are designed to reprogram your body’s movement patterns.
For more details on each of these treatment options, please visit the services page on this website.
